Topical Discussion Evening – March 1st

February 22, 2012 in Events

Michael Goldsmith, Instructor of Music and Director of Jazz at Mineral Area College, is going to be heading up a topical discussion evening beginning March 1st. Essentially we will take one topic for two hours to open up discussion. There would of course, be some ground rules and etiquette for the evening. We want to encourage lively debate and discussion without crossing the line with negativity.

Our first night, the topic will be called “Tweet This.” An overall discussion about social networking, and it’s impact on today’s world. There is no charge to attend the discussions, and we certainly invite you to enjoy some of our food and beverage as well.

time&time – Saturday, March 10th

February 2, 2012 in Events

A Bauhaus favorite, time&time, is returning for another performance!! The local group will get the show started around 6:30pm with opening band, Bald Eagle Mountain. Tickets will be $5. Here’s a little bit of info about time&time…

Many find it strange that the band is instrumental. Constantly they guys hear, “so you don’t have a singer? That’s weird!” But music is really meant to speak for itself. That’s what time&time has tried to do from the beginning. They always wanted to allow the listener to experience the music in their own way. In doing so, everyone can enjoy it however they want.

From Farmington, MO, time&time has collectively been playing music for years. With their recent release of their first album “The Death of a Bird, Some Robots, an Avalanche, and Darkness”, released by Eulogy Recordings, the band has been working hard playing as much as possible. You can find their album on any of your favorite digital download retailer, or get the deluxe edition at the show!

Brad Vickers & His Vestapolitans – Friday, April 6th

February 2, 2012 in Events

Brad Vickers & His Vestapolitans will be here on Friday, April 6th at 6:30pm. Tickets will be $10. Here’s a little bio about the band…

Guitarist/songwriter BRAD VICKERS learned on the job playing, recording, and touring with America’s blues and roots masters: Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Rogers, Hubert Sumlin, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Odetta, Sleepy LaBeef, and Rosco Gordon—to name only a few.

As bass player for Little Mike & The Tornadoes, he cut his teeth backing up these elder statesmen, many of whom called on him to work and record with them over the years. Brad had the good fortune to play on Pinetop Perkins’ Grammy-nominated discs, “Born in the Delta” (Telarc), and “Ladies’ Man” (MC Records).

Now his group, The VESTAPOLITANS, offer a good-time mix of originals and covers spanning blues, ragtime, hill country breakdowns, rock ‘n’ roll, and more great American roots music. A new release, “Traveling Fool” joins their previous two CDs, “Le Blues Hot” (2008) and “Stuck With The Blues” (2010), which have met with terrific reviews, radio play on 250+ stations, Sirius/XM Bluesville “Pick2 Click”s, and wonderful audience response!

Ben Miller Band – Thursday, April 19th

February 1, 2012 in Events

Ben Miller Band will be here on Thursday, April 19th at 6:30pm. Tickets will be $10 in advance/$12 at the door. Here’s a little bio about the band…

The Ben Miller Band is made up of three very different musicians. Ben Miller(slide guitar, lead vocals) began his musical career on the streets of northern europe playing his distinctive delta-blues slide guitar for passers-by. He built an impressive collection of folk songs and original material as well as honing his distinctive performance style. Combine that with the home grown musical mad scientist Scott Leeper(washtub bass, backing vocals). He began his musical career at the age of ten, wowing audiences playing pop music in his family’s band “The Leepers”. Later he toured with delta-blues hero Lightnin’ Boy Malcom, and also made a name for himself as a truly astounding one man band. To complete this trio of musicians comes Doug “Cap’t Washboard” Dicharry(washboard, drums, trombone, backing vocals). As a air force brat growing up he assimilated an array of musical styles and attidudes. Moving every 4 years throughout the globe his one constant was music, from playing with punk, ska, and progressive noise bands to school marching bands. The three met in Joplin Missouri at open mic nights that Ben was running. The three naturally gravitated towards each other feeding off of their shared interests as well as their different influences.
